Community Guidelines
Community Guidelines
LoomLane has spaces where members share — reels, circles, tables, shared shortlists and the conversations around them. These guidelines describe what belongs there.
They are short on purpose. The rule underneath all of them: this is a place about sarees, and about people who love them. Behave like you are in someone's home.
1. What belongs here
- Sarees you love, sarees you bought, sarees you are deciding between
- Honest opinions, including "I did not like this"
- Drape, styling, care, and the questions you were too shy to ask elsewhere
- Craft, weaves, regions, and the people who make them
- Encouragement — especially for someone showing themselves in a saree for the first time
2. What does not
People
- Harassment, bullying, or piling on
- Hate or abuse based on caste, religion, region, language, gender, sexuality, disability, or appearance
- Body-shaming or colourism. This one matters here, and we enforce it
- Sharing someone's personal details — phone number, address, workplace — without their consent
- Posting someone else's photograph without their permission
- Impersonating another member, a seller, or LoomLane
Content
- Nudity or sexual content
- Violence, or content that glorifies it
- Anything illegal, or that encourages something illegal
- Misinformation about craft or provenance — calling a powerloom saree handloom, or inventing a GI origin
- Spam, repetitive posting, or engagement farming
Commerce
- Selling outside LoomLane, or directing people off-platform to transact
- Asking for or offering payment by direct transfer
- Counterfeits, or passing off another weaver's or designer's work as your own
- Fake reviews, paid praise, or coordinated ratings
- Undisclosed commercial relationships — if you earn from a recommendation, say so
Rights
- Photographs, video, text or designs that are not yours to post
- Content that infringes a trademark, copyright or geographical indication
3. If you earn from what you post
Members of the Business Women programme, and anyone else who earns commission from a recommendation, must make that clear in the post itself. Not in a profile, not in a link — in the post, where the person reading it will see it.
This is not a formality. Somebody deciding to spend real money deserves to know whether the person recommending it earns from that decision.
4. Reporting
Every post has a report option. Use it. Reports are reviewed by our moderation team.
For content that infringes your intellectual property, or that is unlawful, use the process in the Content & IP Takedown Policy — it has defined timelines and it reaches the right people.
If someone is in immediate danger, contact the police first. Then tell us.
5. What we do about breaches
We aim for proportionate, not punitive. Depending on what happened and whether it has happened before:
| Minor or first-time | We remove the content and tell you why |
| Repeated | Limits on posting, for a period |
| Serious | Removal from community spaces |
| Severe or illegal | Account closure, and referral to the authorities where required |
You will be told what was removed and why, and you can appeal to support and then to the Grievance Officer. We will not remove someone's content silently and leave them guessing.
Where a legal obligation requires immediate removal, we act first and explain immediately after.
6. What you keep
What you post stays yours. Posting it gives us permission to host and display it within LoomLane so the feature works — nothing more. Deleting your account removes what you posted, and you can ask us to take down any individual piece at hello@loomlane.org.
7. Questions
hello@loomlane.org, or the Grievance Officer whose contact details are published on the Grievance Redressal page.
