Content & IP Takedown Policy
Content & IP Takedown Policy
If content on LoomLane infringes your rights or breaks the law, this is how to tell us and what we will do.
LoomLane is an intermediary under the Information Technology Act, 2000. Sellers list their own products and members post their own content; we do not review everything before it appears. This policy is how we act once we know.
1. What you can report here
- Copyright — your photographs, video, text or designs used without permission
- Trademark — counterfeit goods, or your mark used to mislead
- Geographical indication — a saree sold as a GI weave that is not one
- Design — a registered design copied
- Personal rights — your photograph or likeness used without consent
- Unlawful content — anything that breaks Indian law
For content that breaks our Community Guidelines but no law, use the in-app report on the post — it is faster.
2. How to report
Write to hello@loomlane.org with the subject line "Takedown request".
Tell us:
- Who you are — name, address, email, phone. If you are acting for a rights holder, say for whom and in what capacity.
- What right you hold — registration number for a trademark, design or GI; for copyright, what the work is and how you own it.
- Exactly what to remove — the product link, post link, or screenshot with enough detail to identify it. "Somewhere on your app" is not actionable.
- Why it infringes — plainly.
- A statement that you believe in good faith the use is not authorised by the rights holder, an agent, or the law.
- A statement that the information you have given is accurate, and that you may be liable for a knowingly false complaint.
- Your signature — electronic is fine.
Incomplete reports slow everything down. If something is missing we will come back to you rather than close it, but that costs days.
3. What we do, and how fast
| Stage | Timeline |
|---|---|
| Acknowledge your report | Within 48 hours |
| Act on a valid intellectual-property or unlawful-content report | Within 36 hours of receiving a complete report, as required by the IT Rules, 2021 |
| Act on non-consensual intimate imagery, or impersonation of that kind | Within 24 hours |
| Act on a court order or a lawful government direction | Within the period the order specifies |
Acting means removing or disabling access to the content. Where a listing is affected we also tell the seller, and repeated infringement costs a seller their place on LoomLane.
4. Telling the other side
We tell the person whose content was removed what was removed and on what basis — including who complained, unless disclosing that would create a genuine risk to them.
Removing content in response to a complaint is not a finding that infringement occurred. It is us acting on a report, quickly, as the law requires.
5. Counter-notice
If your content was removed and you believe that was wrong, write to hello@loomlane.org with the subject "Counter-notice", telling us:
- who you are and how to reach you;
- what was removed and where it was;
- why you believe you are entitled to post it — your own photograph, your own design, a licence, or fair dealing;
- a statement that the information is accurate.
We will review it, share it with the original complainant, and restore the content where the counter-notice is well-founded and no court order or legal obligation prevents it. Where the two sides genuinely disagree about who owns what, that is a dispute for a court, not for us to adjudicate — we will say so plainly rather than pretend to decide it.
6. Repeat infringement
Accounts and sellers that repeatedly infringe are removed. Deliberately passing off another weaver's or designer's work is one of the few things that ends a seller's relationship with LoomLane immediately.
7. False reports
A takedown request removes someone's livelihood from view. Filing one knowingly falsely — to remove a competitor, or to claim a right you do not hold — may make you liable, and we will cooperate with the affected party.
8. Grievance Officer
Complaints about how we handled a takedown go to the Grievance Officer, whose contact details are published on the Grievance Redressal page, with the timelines set out there.
